Scottish Churches Housing Action today announced its range of training topics aimed at preventing homelessness. Besides core modules on the housing options approach and tenancy sustainment, courses available include an introduction to homelessness, making the most of volunteers, and developing a comprehensive recording and evaluation system.
Training is provided by the organisation’s capacity-building arm, VCT Skills – which also offers volunteer development services and consultancy. Services are tailored to the needs of commissioning organisations and include:
- Specialist training on homelessness
- Capacity-building training for voluntary organisations
- Feasibility studies
- Volunteer project development.
Chief Executive Alastair Cameron comments: “These are increasingly difficult times for homeless people, as public spending cuts bite. We offer a response based on volunteering, which mobilises people of goodwill to help. Local authorities, housing associations, social enterprises and voluntary organisations can all benefit. Our training is one option, and we are keen to discuss opportunities.”
