VCT Skills launch

1 March 2011

Scottish Churches Housing Action has launched a new initiative, VCT Skills, which provides consultancy and training to voluntary organisations, social landlords and local authorities.

VCT Skills builds on 15 years’ experience of work on a range of subjects including homelessness and capacity building for small voluntary organisations.

Alastair Cameron, Chief Executive, said: “These are hard times for organisations of all sorts – there’s not a lot of money around, so we all need to make the most of what we have.  Scottish Churches Housing Action specialises in making the most of volunteers.  We’ve learned these lessons in relation to homelessness since setting up our first local project in 1997.  Our new initiative, VCT Skills, makes our services more visible and gives us the opportunity to work on a broader canvas.”

VCT Skills offers volunteer development services, consultancy and training.  Services are tailored to the needs of commissioning organisations and include:

  • Specialist training on homelessness
  • Capacity-building training for voluntary organisations
  • Feasibility studies
  • Volunteer project development.

A launch event takes place in the Torridon Room at Scottish Churches Housing Action’s base in Edinburgh at 12 noon on Wednesday 2 March.  Speakers include Julie Hunter of North Lanarkshire Council, and Malcolm May Chairperson of Scottish Churches Housing Action, and former Chair of Starter Packs Dundee.

Alastair Cameron adds: “With a strong track record of making the most of volunteers, developing local homelessness initiatives through Scotland’s churches, we know that VCT Skills has much to offer public sector and voluntary organisations in today’s challenging environment”.
