Kingcase Church of Scotland
Kingcase Church of Scotland in Prestwick were considering improvements to their hall but did not have funds to meet the costs. The architects – ARP Lorimer – suggested selling a piece of land to Ayrshire Housing, a registered social landlord. The site had been used for car parking and contained two ex-Ministry of Defence buildings.
Ten affordable homes for rent were built, and a major extension to the church hall, under a integrated design and contractor team, led by Ayrshire Housing. Observer Court – named to reflect the historic links with the Royal Observer Corps whose bunker had stood on the site – was completed in June 2010.
The project cost £1.2 million and was supported by grants from the Scottish Government and South Ayrshire Council.
